The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that says states cannot require a woman to wait six months before giving birth.
The ACLU said Tuesday that the ruling is a victory for “women and women’s rights.”
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that states cannot force women to wait at least a year after getting pregnant before seeking an abortion.
The court’s ruling was a victory, but it also makes a mockery of the process of getting an abortion and the protections that have existed for decades in our society, the ACLU said in a statement.
“In light of the Supreme Courts ruling, the Supreme Judicial Court must immediately reverse its order that states must be required to obtain a warrant before obtaining an abortion, and to provide all women with the legal assistance they need to seek an abortion.”
The ACLU is asking the Supreme court to reverse its decision, which it said was based on the wrong legal reasoning.
